HIGH POINT, N.C. -- For High Point native and Winston-Salem State outfielder Randy Norris, the goal was always simple.

"It was never a time that I wanted to give up on this dream," he said. "I just knew I wanted to be a professional baseball player."

Wednesday, Norris' lifelong dream came true.

The San Francisco Giants selected him in the 19th round of this year's Major League Baseball Draft. He became the first Winston-Salem State baseball player drafted since 1985.

The Dudley High School alum leaves Winston-Salem State as the school's career leader in at-bats, hits and stolen bases. He was also named the 2018 ICAA Player of the Year.

Now, he's ready to show his friends, family and supporters what he can do on the next level.

"I hope to show them that I can get to the big leagues, that I will get to the big leagues," he said.
