MOUNT AIRY, NC (WFMY) - Police officers found a man stuck in a ventilation duct in the kitchen of a Golden Corral restaurant in Mount Airy Tuesday morning.

Charlie Walker was charged with Felony Breaking and Entering after an employee found him inside a ventilation duct and called the police.

Employees noticed the exhaust vent over one of the stoves was not exhausting smoke, prompting the manager to go on the roof where he found Walker. Fire department and police got Walker out of the vent.

"One of our firefighters gave him some rope to tie around his hands, and when it was tied around his hands, the policemen and firefighters then pulled him to where he could wrap it around his hands even better, and then called him on out," explained Mount Airy Fire Chief Zane Poindexter.

Walker was arrested after being released from Northern Surry hospital around 4 p.m.

Walker, 59, was also charged with Possession of Burglary Tools and Damage to Property. Walker was placed under a $10,000 unsecured bond.

"It's a very bizarre instance, could have been a lot worse for this individual had he not been found," Poindexter said, "It was estimated that he had 30 minutes to 45 minutes left or he could’ve possibly passed."
