1. WE ALL SCREAM, FOR ICE CREAM!
Two words – ICE CREAM! This weekend cool off with the kids at the “Big Chill.” It’s one of the best ice cream festivals in Winston-Salem. The Big Chill includes a variety of delicious homemade ice cream to sample, live music, and kids play area. The ice cream festival takes place Saturday, July 15 from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Bailey Park in Winston-Salem. The event is free but donations are welcome as it benefits the Shalom Project.

2. UP CLOSE WITH PENGUINS
What’s black and white and cute as a button? Penguins! You can get up close with penguins by taking part in the Penguins Encounter program at the Greensboro Natural Science Center. You get to pet them, play with the penguins, and learn all about how they live! The program takes place on Saturdays and Sundays at 3:15 p.m. It’s $45 plus general admission fee.

3. HIGHLAND GAMES
It’s all about the Highland Games and bagpipes this weekend at Grandfather Mountain. The Highland Games includes bagpipes, Scottish athletics, highland melodies, Celtic cuisine, crafts, and tons of tartans. The weekend is filled with all kinds of competitions. Tickets are $5 each day for children ages 5-12. Kids 5 and younger get in free.

4. DID SOMEONE SAY, PEACHES?!?!?
“Peach Day” will take over the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market. That means free peach samples, peach ice cream, peach recipes, peach recipe contest, and a visit with the NC Peach Queen. “Peach Day” takes place Friday, July 13 at the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market.

5. A MAGICAL FANTASY
Go on a magical fantasy this weekend as the Drama Center of City Arts presents, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The madcap comedy features star-crossed lovers, fairy mischief and mayhem, a group of rustic tradesmen trying to put on a play and the nuptials of the local royal family. The drama features a cast of Guilford County students and people from the community. The FREE event takes place July 13 – 15 at 6:00 p.m. at the amphitheater at Barber Park located at 1800 Dans Road.
