Chad grew up in Eagle River, Wisconsin. The cold winters inspired him to check out another part of the country for college: the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. After graduation, he returned to Wisconsin to work at WJFW in Rhinelander - the station he grew up watching. He served as 10pm anchor for two years. He then spent four years working as morning anchor at KOLN/KGIN in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Chad knew he wanted to become a journalist when he was in the eighth grade. He went to his first
Green Bay Packers game at Lambeau Field with his dad and noticed all the reporters on the sidelines. His dad says, from that day forward, being a journalist was all he ever wanted to be.
Over the years, Chad has covered a wide variety of stories from horrific mass shootings to light-hearted interviews with Pat Sajak and Vanna White on the set of Wheel of Fortune. While in North Carolina,
Chad’s traveled to cover three hurricanes (Colin in Florida, Hermine and Matthew in North Carolina), President Donald Trump’s inauguration in Washington, D.C., the Carolina Panthers’ NFC Championship win in Charlotte and Super Bowl 50 loss in San Francisco, Duke’s trip to the Final Four and National Championship win in Indianapolis.
Chad has received awards of broadcast excellence from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, the Associated Press and the Nebraska Broadcasters Association. His most memorable came when he received an award for a death row interview he did with the man whose crime inspired the movie 'Boys Don't Cry.'
Of all the different types of news, Chad enjoys covering politics and natural disasters the most.
For fun, you will likely find Chad out and about meeting people. He enjoys the change of seasons in North Carolina, the easy access to the mountains and the beach and, of course, THE FOOD!
